Mingling blue lagoon water with solidified lava. This unique photographic collection shows the stark Icelandic landscape with an ephemeral, intimate, painterly aesthetic.
While Iceland is often referred to as ‘the Land of Fire and Ice’, it really ought to be ‘the Land of Lava and Water’ because most of the landscape consists of solidified lava flows surrounded by rivers, streams, snow fields, glaciers, and ocean. It was precisely the interaction between these elements that I wanted to enhance with these images.
This is a single exposure photograph made with intentional camera movement in August 2022 at the Askja volcano crater and its surrounding snowfields and black basaltic rim.
Limited edition prints (approx 55 x 35 cm) are in an edition of 5. An extra Artist’s Proof is in the edition run.
